Background & Aims: The prevalence of myocardial infarction in the countries of the world, including Iran, is increasing, and the economic burden and consequences of it are also significant. It has been pointed out that in addition to common therapies, some methods such as patient education can be effective in improving patients' health. Accordingly, it is expected from the nurses as important and influential members of the treatment team to use a variety of methods, including patient education to improve self-efficacy in patients. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of self-care education on the self efficacy in myocardial infarction hospitalized patients in Seyeid Al-Shohada educational & treatment center, Urmia, 2017, in order to reduce the problems caused by this lethal and costly disease. Materials & Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, the statistical population of was consisted of 70 myocardial infarction patients admitted to the educational and treatment center of the city of Urmia by a random sampling from the target population and randomly assigned to the intervention and control group. Self-care education was done in intervention group during three 30-minute sessions by presenting a self-care educational booklet by face to face educational method. Two months after discharge, the self-efficacy questionnaire was completed again for both groups by telephone contact. Chi-square and independent t-test were used to analyze the data by using SPSS-21 software.
