Background & Aims: The need for amino acids increases significantly during pregnancy, and receiving sufficient amounts of different amino acids can prevent the pregnancy outcomes in the women fertilized by IVF. The present study investigated the effect of nutrition education on amino acid intake in women fertilized by IVF.
Materials & Methods: The present study is a quasi-experimental study with participation of 170 women fertilized by IVF, referred to the selected infertility clinic in Tehran in 2018. Sampling was performed using convenience method, and allocation of intervention and control groups was done by simple random method. Two questionnaires including lifestyle questionnaire in terms of nutrition and eating habits and questionnaire of 24-hour food recalls before and after the educational intervention in 6 sessions were used to collect information. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and T test by SPSS 20 and Nutritionist 4 (N4).
Results: Based on the findings of this study, women aged 19 to 45 years in the two investigated groups showed significant changes in the intake of two amino acids, tyrosine, and valine, as in the intervention group, the amino acid tyrosine increased by 173 units (P=0.004), and in the control group, the amino acid valine had a decrease of 529 units (P=0.005)..
Conclusion: It seems that educational interventions can be effective in the intake amount of different amino acids. So, to confirm the findings of this study, it is suggested to conduct more studies in this field.
