Background & Aims: Borderline personality disorder is the most common personality disorder in psychiatric settings. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy and the combination of dialectical behavior therapy and mentalization-based therapy in improving the symptoms of people with borderline personality disorder. Materials & Methods: This semi-experimental study was a pre-test/post-test type with a control group. 45 people with borderline personality disorder referred to psychological clinics in Urmia city, Iran in 2021 were selected by available sampling method and then randomly assigned to two intervention and control groups (15 people in each group). For the first experimental group, 12 sessions of combination of dialectical behavior therapy and metallization-based therapy were performed, and for the second experimental group, 12 sessions of dialectical behavioral therapy were implemented. The control group did not receive any intervention. The control group did not receive any intervention. The borderline personality scale was used to collect data. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 24 software and descriptive statistics and inferential ANCOVA statistics. Results: The average scores of borderline personality in the stages before and after the intervention in the first experiment group were 36.00 and 28.13, in the second experiment group were 35.56 and 32.20, and in the control group were 36.73 and 36.04, respectively. The results of covariance analysis showed that the mean of borderline personality in the intervention group which toke combination of dialectical behavior therapy and metallization-based therapy had decreased significantly in comparison with the group of dialectical behavior therapy alone (P
