Factors related to the health promoting life style among geriatric patients Rashidi S [1] , Bahrami M [2] * Received: 15 Jan, 2015 Accepted: 11 Apr , 2015 Abstract Background & Aim: Having a healthy aging is one of the main individuals' rights. Activities leading to a better health status and having a healthy life style are the main strategies in order to maintain and improve individual's lives. The aim of this study was therefore to identify the health promoting life style, and its affecting factors between geriatric patients hospitalized in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences affiliated hospitals. Materials & Methods: This was a descriptive correlational study which was conducted in four major hospitals affiliated to Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2012. 300 geriatric patients were randomly selected and invited to complete the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile – II (HPLP-II) that measures the health promoting life style. Results: In several domains including Responsibility regarding the health domain (39.75 ± 21.04), Physical activity (14.79 ± 17.01), Nutrition (49.93 ± 16.97), and Stress management (40.26 ± 18.44), the mean scores were below the acceptable level (50). However, in the domains such as Spirituality growth (54 . 59 ± 24.74), and Interpersonal relationship (56.2 ± 19.7) the mean score was above the acceptable level. In general, patients did not have a promoting healthy life style (42.8 ± 13.2). Significant correlations were found between promoting life style behaviors and marital status, educational level and occupation. Conclusion: The study findings indicated that geriatric patients may not have a promoting healthy life style. In order to facilitate the geriatric health thereby decreasing chronic illnesses, frequent hospitalization and related morbidities, it is suggested to implement the health education programs in a wide range. Production of research-based knowledge in nursing is increasing but the trend of its practical usage is slow. This study tries to determine the factors affecting the individual research transfer among educators and faculty members in medical science universities, Iran. Materials & Methods: This descriptive correlation study was conducted using a clustered sampling of 279 nurses working in Medical Sciences Universities, Iran. The data were gathered using tools developed by Knott & Wildavsky (1980), and Landry et al (2003), and they were analyzed using SPSS, v13. Results : The results showed that at the individual level , the highest activity was presenting and participating at the conference, the lowest participation was in " commercial activities". Factors as "the research based on consumer needs" and "the years served as nursing instructor" had statistically significant relationship with personal research transfer performance ) P< 0/05 .( Conclusion: Findings indicate that the instructor’s individual performance in research transfer was statistically significant correlation with some factors. So it is necessary to promote and encourage the performances but also considering determinants and intervening factors. Comparing the effect of prone and supine positions on respiratory status of acute respiratory distress syndrome newborns treated by INSURE protocol Vafaienejad T [1] , Fakhr-Movahedi A [2] , Salimi T [3] * , Nooripur SH [4] Received: 19 Jan , 2015 Accepted: 14 Apr , 2015 Abstract Background & Aims: The basis of treatment in acute respiratory syndrome in neonatal has been the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide which was performed by various therapeutic modes such as INSURE protocol. Therefore, this study was performed to compare the prone and supine positions on respiratory status of acute respiratory distress syndrome newborns treated by INSURE protocol. Materials & Methods: This was an experimental study with crossover design that was performed on 30 newborn with respiratory problems undergoing NCPAP mode after application of INSURE protocol. Research samples were assigned randomly into two groups. Newborns in first group were placed in prone-supine position for three hours in each position. Second groups contrary to first group placed in supine-prone position for three hours in each position as well. In every position, oxygen saturation percentage, respiratory and pulse rate were measured every 15 minutes. Finally, the data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Results showed an increasing of oxygen saturation, and decreasing of respiratory and pulse rate in prone to supine position significantly (p< 0.001). But there were no significant difference between two groups for bradycardia, desaturation and Fio2 alteration. Conclusion: The finding showed that prone to supine position has useful effects in gas exchange in newborn, which may be considered as an effective and affordable care to establish respiratory status of acute respiratory distress syndrome.
