Investigating health locus of control among women with gestational diabetes and its relationship with demographic variables Zarrabi R [1] , Rahmatnezhad L [2] , Bastani F [3] ó Received: 05 Sep, 2012 Accepted: 02 Dec, 2012 Abstract Background & Aims : Gestational diabetes is one of the common conditions which entails high risk pregnancies and leads to adverse pregnancy outcomes. Regarding treatment and reduction of complications and adverse pregnancy outcomes, psychological variables such as internal and external health locus of control has important role in self care and self control of gestational diabetic women. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine health locus of control among women with gestational diabetes and its relationship with demographic variables. Materials & Methods : A descriptive correlational design was used in the study. One hundred pregnant women with the diagnosis of gestational diabetes in their last month gestational age were continuously recruited from four educational hospitals and health centers. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire. Regarding validity and reliability of the instrument, we used content validity and Chronbach’s alpha for internal consistency. Descriptive statistics and data analyses were performed using the SPSS statistical software for Windows. Result : In this study, 46% of the subjects had low internal health locus of control, 54% high locus of control with responsibility on their health. Also the different dimensions of external locus of control were consisted of chance, doctors and others. Fifty percent of the subjects had low external locus of control (chance), 39% high locus of control, 61% low external locus of control (doctors), 50% high locus of control (doctors), 50% low external locus of control (others) and 50% high external locus of control. In general, with the calculation of z score, the highest frequency of the different aspects of health locus of control was doctors. There were significant relationships between locus of control and some demographic variables. Conclusion: According to the study, doctors as the highest frequency of the dimensions of external health locus of control has significant role on the patients’ health and diseases. Therefore the therapeutic relationships between doctors and clients could be important. Also, there was a significant relationship between external health locus of control (chance) and the subjects’ educational status. It seems that this factor should be considered in health education and self care strategies, especially in women with gestational diabetes. The first step in reduction of mortality rate is to recognize the causes. This present study was designed to determine the effect of neonatal risk factors and effective treatment measures on neonatal death. Materials & Methods : This case-control study was carried out on 250 cases of dead neonates admitted in NICU during 2007 – 2009 years and the control group also was 250 neonates who were admitted during the same ward and year and after necessary treatments were discharged alive. To collect data, a questionnaire was provided including mother’s ;neonates demographic features, hospitalized & deathcauses, treatment measures and its complications. Chi-squared test, odds ratio and logistic regression were used to determine the relationship between variables in which p

Questionnaire consisted of two parts, demographic profile (14 questions) and Spielberger trait anxiety questionnaire (40 questions). To determine the scientific validity of the questionnaire's content validity and to determine the scientific reliability, Cronbach's alpha test was used. After obtaining consent from subjects, control group received the usual care and experimental group family-based care. Spielberger trait anxiety questionnaire was completed by parents in both groups at admission, 48 hours after admission and at discharge and analyzed using statistical test. Result : research findings suggest that the mean parental anxiety in control group at discharge (58/6 ± 82/48) and intervention group (11/7 ± 15/33). The t-test (p < 0/0001) show significant difference between two groups anxiety mean after intervention. The effect of teaching the learning and studying strategies on unsuccessful college students' development in Urmia University of Medical Sciences Feizipour H [1] , Zeinali A [2] * Received: 16 Dec , 2012 Accepted: 20 Feb , 2013 Abstract: Background & Aims : Educational failure is an important problem of most of the educational centers that needs urgent strategies. This study aimed to analyze the effects of teaching the learning and studying on the educational development of unsuccessful college students. Materials & Methods : This experimental study was conducted on 28 college students that were chosen randomly and were divided into two experiment and control groups which were studied with a pre-test and post-test pattern based on the students average in two semesters. The experiment group was thought in 8 one-hour sessions individually, while control group did not receive any. The difference between the final grades of second semester every year was analyzed by SPSS software after exam. Result : The average grade of the experimental group in pretest was 11.03 that increased to 14.14 after educational contract. While the control group average grade was 10.94 that decreased to 10.82 after the test. So according to the results, there was a meaningful difference between the average grade of the control and experimental groups. Also the rate of educational failure among the boy students was sufficiently more than girls. Conclusion: The results of this study show that teaching the learning and studying methods has a positive effect on educational improvement of students and can be an educational model during the training especially for the first term. There was a meaningful difference between the rate of educational failure of girls and boys that need to be studied.
