Received: 26 Nov , 2013 Accepted: 30 Jan , 2014   Abstract Background & Aims:  Proper use of evidence and research-based finding leads to improve the quality and reliability of care and it makes the nurses to be responsive to their performance. Awareness of the barriers in research utilization is a basic tool to achieve finding-based performance. Materials & Methods: This study aimed to identify barriers to the use of research by nurses in Urmia University of Medical Sciences in 1392. Methods: This descriptive- analytical study was done on all nurses of the hospitals of Urmia Medical Science University (1000nurses) in 2013. The data were collected by using the Funk's barriers scale. Then, data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 16), descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Result: The mean total score on the questionnaire barriers to use research findings in clinical practice was 56/57 ± 7/05 from 120. Average score for barriers related to the organization of other factors was the highest, and there were the factors related to the quality of research, the presentation of results and factors related to nurse practitioners. Conclusion: The results of the study showed the importance of the organization advocacy in research utilization. To remove barriers in research utilization, time management, mutual cooperation especially by physicians, and sufficient facilities should be provided
