Staff Burnout in Tabriz hospitals: The role of behavior types and coping strategies   Badri Gargari R [1] *, Lotfinia H [2] , Mohamadnajad R [3]    Received : 16 March , 2011 Accepted: 10June , 2011   Abstract  Background & Aims: Feeling burnout leads to reduced productivity in organizations and has physical and mental signs such as overreacting to minor hassles, reporting being overwhelmed, and complaining of minor health aliments. This research was conducted to study the relationship between personality traits and coping strategies with job burnout of admission employees in Tabriz hospitals.  Materials & Methods: This study was conducted on 132 admission employees selected by stratified random sampling method. Maslach burnout inventory, a behavior questionnaire and coping strategies defined by Lazarus & Folkman were used to measure the variables. The data was analyzed by one way variance analysis (ANOVA) and multiple regression analysis (stepwise).  Result: The admission employees with type A behavior experienced more burnout feeling than employees with type B behavior. Also, employees using problem-based coping strategies ( positive reappraisal, problem solving and social support seeking) had less burnout than employees with emotion-based coping strategies.  Conclusion: It seems that if personality types are considered as a factor of selecting staffs, it will be helpful in reducing stress effects. Also, it is suggested to train staffs to learn about coping strategies in order to reduce the rate of burnout. Keywords: Type A behavior, Coping strategies, Burnout     Address : Psychology Faculty, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz, Iran   Tel : (+98)9144051306   Email : badri_rahim@yahoo.com   [1] Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology , Tabriz University, Tabriz, Iran (Corresponding Author)   [2] Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz, Iran   [3] Master in General Psychology, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz, Iran
