Aims & Scopes

The Journal of Nursing and Midwifery is an open access, peer-reviewed publication focused on scholarly debates and innovative practice in both nursing and midwifery practice. The Journal of Nursing and Midwifery can promote research, education and practice by publishing the highest quality, evidence-based articles that address current global health issues and advances.
Key Objectives:
  • Promote Scholarly Debate: facilitate theoretical, practical and interdisciplinary debate in the evidence base of nursing and midwifery globally
  • Support Evidence-Based Practice: publish original research, reviews and case studies that improve clinical decision making, improve health care policy and deliver patient-centered care models
  • Highlight Global Perspectives: encourage submissions that discuss nursing and midwifery practice in various cultural, socio-economic and health care contexts, and recommend strategies to improve maternal and child health globally
  • Advance Education and Training: publish innovations in the area of nursing and midwifery education, including pedagogy, competency development frameworks and continuing education initiatives.

Scope of Research:
The journal accepts studies with quantitative, qualitative and/or mixed-methods approaches that address the following themes:
  • Clinical Nursing and Midwifery: Patient safety, chronic illness care, emergency care, and maternal-neonatal care.
  • Community-Based Practice: Intersection of health care delivery to populations who have experienced marginalization, public health initiatives, and primary health care models.
  • Health Systems and Policy: Workforce development, equity in health care, and nursing and midwifery policy analysis and evaluation.
  • Interprofessional Collaboration: Interprofessional work with nursing/midwifery and pharmacy, psychology, public health approaches and more to share the load addressing complex, wicked health and health care challenges.
Audience:
The journal publishes research for academics, researchers, practitioners, educators, policymakers and professionals in an effort to build nursing and midwifery as ever-advancing, evidence-based disciplines. Its goal is to effect large-scale transformational change to global healthcare systems by focusing on accessibility and rigor. All submissions are subjected to a rigorous peer review process that assesses methodological quality and relevance to practice. The journal complies with international and open-access publishing standards thereby allowing knowledge to be shared freely to inform practice, education and research, globally. The journal will keep with the highest ethical standards and aims to help grow the evidence-base, as nursing and midwifery continue to evolve.
