Incidence Rate of ExtraPulmonary Tuberculosis in Urmia city during 2004-2007     A Gholami [1] , MSc L Moosavi jahr [2] , BSc  Received: 11 April, 2010 Accepted: 2March, 2010 Abstract  Background & Aims: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis may develop simultaneously in the course of pulmonary tuberculosis or it may appear years after the primary pulmonary infection. About one-third of tuberculosis patients have extra pulmonary tuberculosis. This study investigated the incidence extraPulmonary tuberculosis in Urmia during 2004-2007.   Materials & Methods: This study cross-sectional retrospective study gained the required data of patients from their documented files. SPSS was used to analyze the data.   Results: From 382 T cases, 134 patients with extrapulmonary were identified (incidence rate of four years = 16.38 per 100,000). The maximum incidence rate (4.44 per 100000) was in 2006 and the minimum incidence rate (3.76 per 100000) was in 2007. Seventy cases (52.2%) were males and 64 were women (47.8%). Sex proportion was 1/09. Tuberculous lymphadenitis was the prevalent form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis .  Conclusion: In this study we observed that extrapulmonary tuberculosis involves more than one-third of tuberculosis patients and the incidence rate increased during the first three years (2004-2006) and decreased in the last year (2007).   Keywords: Tuberculosis, Extrapulmonary, Epidemiology     Address : Urmia University Of Medical Sciences, Urmia, Iran Tel: (+98)9155105801    E-mail : Aagholami80@yahoo.com   [1] MSc in Epidemiology, Urmia University of Medical Sciences, Urmia, Iran (Corresponding Author)   [2] BSc of Public Health
