Introduction: The hymen, often referred to as the virginity membrane, varies in shape and is influenced by the changes that occur during puberty. A septated hymen is a rare type of hymen caused by defects in the fusion of the Müllerian ducts.
Case-report: In this study, we presented a 43-year-old woman who was referred to a gynecologist in Mashhad due to severe pain during sexual intercourse and difficulty with full penetration. After a thorough sonographic and clinical examination, she was diagnosed with a septated hymen. At the same time, her uterus was found to be normal.
Cconclusion: The longitudinal septum is typically diagnosed during puberty, at the onset of sexual intercourse, or sometimes during vaginal delivery. Treatment options depend on the patient's symptoms. Intervention is usually unnecessary for individuals with non-obstructive septums who do not have specific complaints.
