Emotional Intelligence and its Application in Nursing Habibpour Z [1] , Khorami markani A [2] Abstract Background& Aim: Emotional work has widely been accepted in Medical literature as part of nursing however, the contribution of emotional intelligence in nursing context requires further study. This paper aims to present an analysis of essays on emotional intelligence and consider the value and importance of emotional intelligence to nursing. Method & Materials: A Review of literature was done using the internet and search terms used were 'emotions', 'intelligence', 'emotions and intelligence' and 'Emotional intelligence in nursing'. A hand‑search of relevant journals and significant references were added to the data. Results: Emotional intelligence plays an important part in forming successful human relationships. Emotional work is important in establishing therapeutic nurse‑patient relationships. The potential value of emotional intelligence in this emotional work is an issue that still needs to be explored. Conclusion: Analysis of the literature suggests that the modem demands of nursing draw on the skills of emotional intelligence to meet the needs of direct patient care and the significance of these needs should be recognized in nurse education. The prospect that there may be advantages to both nurses and patients is a motivating factor for future researchers.
