The research showed one of every five women was affected with lower UTI during her life and 3% of these women are affected more frequently. Lower UT1 is the most important cause of acute bacterial sepsis in women older than 65 years old. Elderly women often have difficulties in complete emptying of the bladder and urinary stasis. In institutionalized elderly women with immobility, high incidence chronic illness, indwelling catheters and the risk of lower UT1 rises dramatically. Therefore, we carried out a study titled on investigation of the elderly women practice in nursing home regarding to prevent lower UTI infection. Methods & Material: This study was a descriptive study. Samples of this study included all of samples in a nursing home. Data was gathered by means of questionnaires included demographic characteristics and 20 questions women's practice. Questionnaires were filled in by interview. Results: Finding showed that the average age of samples was (7.46 year), illiterate (52%), economic status was moderate (56%). They had physical (100%) and with social problems (76%). Related to questions, finding showed that most of women (80%), didn't wash their hands before voiding, didn't clean the perineum and urethral meatuse after each bowel movement (100%) didn't clean urethral meatuse from front to back, (76%) didn't do hand washing after toilet, (68%) were very exhausted (physically and psychologically) and total sample (25%) had weak practice in relation to preventing lower UTI infection. Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that the practice of elderly women in nursing home wasn't good, therefore in order to help elderly women to prevent or manage a recurrent UTI, the health services needs to implement teaching that meets individual women's needs and decrease staffing costs. Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a major health problem in chronic diseases with sever complications. Major cause of mortality in diabetic patients, more than 70% of cases have cardiovascular diseases. Researches deduced that hyperlipidemia is an effective complication. Otherwise, obesity is one of the main factores in progress of NIDDM diabet, obesity, can it be under control. Body mass index (BMI) could be used as an index of obesity which is more representative of person’s appropriate body weight. A large part of the cost resulting from micro and macro vascular complications, is spent on controling blood glucose. So this study aims at estimating the incidence of obesity, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia in the NIDDM diabetic patients. Methods & Materials: In a descriptive study 53 diabetic patients of Urmia Diabet Center were selected by “random sampling” then clinical and laboratory examinations were performed and they were asked to fill questionnaires. Body mass index was calculated with ratio of weight (kg) and hight (m2). Results: The findings showed that the mean age was 55.79 years old and the mean diseases duration was 8.98 years old The main body mass index for all patients was 30.23 kg/m2 for females it was 30.29 and for males 31.45 kg/m2. The incidence of obesity was 72.73% in males and 57.14% in females. The mean serum fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol were 193,02, 239.9, 210,3. Respectively, 88.68% was hyperglycemic 39.2% hypertriglyceridemic and 40.9% hypercholestrolemic . Conclusion: Regarding the findings of this research, individuals with type 2 diabetes needed more to attention on risk factors of diabetes.
