The predictive role of self-efficacy, optimism and demographical characteristics in infertility-related quality of life  Received: 30 Feb , 2015 Accepted: 21 May , 2015  Abstract  Background & Aims: There are many negative reactions to infertility that affects the well-being, satisfaction of life, and overall quality of life of the infertile person. Various factors have determinant role in infertility-related quality of life. The aim of this study was to consider the predictive role of self-efficacy, optimism and demographical characteristics in infertility-related quality of life.  Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, from among the infertile females who attended to the Avicenna Infertility Clinic (Tehran), 221 persons were selected by compliance sampling method. Data were collected by the fertility quality of life tool (FertiQoL), the Infertility Self-Efficacy Scale (ISE), Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R) and Demographical Questionnaire, then they were analyzed with multiple regression in stepwise method by SPSS-19 software.  Results: Age mean of participants was 31/67. Optimism, infertility-related self-efficacy, and socio-economic status had positively significant role on the prediction of infertility-related quality of life (p0/05).  Conclusion: Positive life orientation via optimism, higher self-efficacy in controlling the infertility outcomes, and higher socio-economic status are associated with more appropriate quality of life among infertile females. It is highly recommended to pay attention to these factors in programming and implementing tailored interventions of the infertility-related quality of life improvement for women.  Keywords: Quality of life, Optimism, Self-efficacy, Infertility  Address: Department of Clinical Psychology, Faculty of Psychology & Educational Sciences, Semnan University, Iran  Tel: (+98) 23 3362 3300  Email: i_rahimian@semnan.ac.ir

The Effect of Oral Contraceptive Hormones on the Quality of Life in Women Referred to Health Centers of Urmia  Received: 4 Feb, 2015 Accepted: 20 May, 2015 Abstract Background & Aims: From 1948 in which the World Health Organization emphasized on health as a complete physical, mental and social one, and not merely the absence of disease and disability, the concept of quality of life has been changed, and subsequently health care researches have been gradually increased. The most common method is oral contraceptives, LD, So, due to controversies about different methods of contraception, this study tries to investigate the effect of the most common method, LD, on women's quality of life. Materials & Methods: This study was a descriptive-analytic one. The quality of life of two groups of women, i.e. new applicants of LD (190 students), and the old LD users (200 patients) referring to different health centers of Urmia University of Medical Sciences were collected and compared. The instrument used in this study was a two-part questionnaire containing demographic questions, and Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL_BREF). The data were analyzed by using SPSS program (ver.13) to obtain the absolute frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square tests, t-test, and analysis of variance. Results: In this study, two groups were matched and made similar concerning their age, husband's age, and number of children. Except physical dimension, the quality of life scores between the two groups were not significantly different. In the group who had taken LD for more than a year, their physical scores had increased significantly. Conclusion: According to the results of this study and other studies, the reason for average increase in the physical dimension, can be the result of the direct and obvious effect of LD on reducing dysmenorrhea, amount and duration of menstrual bleeding, the physical symptoms of PMS, acne, etc. Key words: quality of life, oral contraceptives Address: Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Urmia University of Medical Sciences, Urmia, Iran Tel: (+98)4432754961 Email: nayer_rezaee@yahoo.com

Received: 22 May, 2015 Accepted: 19 Aug , 20145 Abstract Background &Aims : The prevalence and mortality of heart failure is high and progressive. The incidence and prevalence of this disease is increasing in spite of medical advances. Because of the poor prognosis of the disease, limitations in physical activity, cessation of social interaction, psychological distress, increasing dependence and early retirement, it imposes a negative impact on the quality of life of the patients. The purpose of this study is assessing the effect of applying continuous care model on the quality of life in patients with heart failure. Materials & Methods: In the present clinical trial which was carried out in 2013, 60  patients with heart failure admited in Taleghani and Seyedolshohada Urmia hospitals were selected using accessible-sampling method, and they were randomly divided into two groups of 30 patients as the experimental and control groups. To evaluate the quality of life as a dependent variable, the Minnesota standard quality-of-life questionnaire was used for heart failure patients, including 21 questions on the three major dimensions of the quality of life (physical, mental and socioeconomic). The intervention was implemented during three months according to the continous care model in the experimental group. Data were analyzed by SPSS v.19  software using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, frequency) ,chi-square, independent and paired t-tests analysis. Results: At the end of third month, the mean of quality of  life reached in the experimental, and control groups from 65.13±5.39 to 33.83±4.85, and from 65.86±3.7 to 67.43±7.03, respectively. There was a significant difference between the two groups  in all aspects of quality of life  including the physical, psychological, and socioeconomic dimension (p=0.00). Conclusion: Applying effective care model, training and follow-up with lifestyle changes in patients with heart failure can improve and enhance quality of life in them. The mean physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) health composite scores of the MSQOL-54 were 40.12 (SE 1.27) and 43.81 (SE 1.61), respectively. There was a strong statistically significant positive correlation between PCS scores and MCS, FSS, and PSQI scores. MCS scores were strongly correlated with FSS and PQSI scores. Age exhibited significant negative correlations with PCS and MCS scores, and it was significantly correlated with FSS and PSQI scores. Conclusions: We observed strong correlations between QOL, fatigue, and sleep quality in a large community-based sample of individuals with MS. These findings support routinely screening and monitoring fatigue severity and sleep quality and their effects on QOL.
