Background & Aims: The job performance of human resources in organizations is one of the key indicators of their evaluation in the rapid changes of this century. This research was conducted with the aim of structural analysis of the relationship between the components of perception of job characteristics and job performance based on the mediation of work alienation.
Materials & Methods: The present study was descriptive of correlation type and based on structural equations. The statistical population of this study included all 240 health and treatment workers in the oil industry of northwest Iran in different categories. Among these 240 people, 145 were selected based on the Karjesi and Morgan table and by stratified random sampling method. Questionnaires were used to measure all the variables, and the psychometric properties of the questionnaires were evaluated and their validity was estimated. To analyze the data, PLS software was used at a significance level of 0.05.
Results: The results showed that the ability to predict employees' job performance based on job characteristics with the mediation of alienation from work with a coefficient of determination of 0.96 and the ability to predict alienation from work based on job characteristics with a coefficient of determination of 0.88 were high. There was a positive and significant relationship between feedback, identity, and perceived importance of job characteristics with job performance. There was a significant inverse relationship between the diversity dimension of job characteristics and alienation from work and between alienation from work and job performance (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Human resource management programs that can improve the perception of job characteristics and reduce work alienation can improve the work performance of health workers.
