Abstract:   (335 Views)
Background & Aim: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) can negatively affect the mental health of affected women. This study aimed to predict marital burnout based on emotion regulation and early maladaptive schemas in women with PMS syndrome.
Materials & Methods: The present study was a descriptive-correlational regression study. The statistical population included all women with PMS syndrome in Karaj city, of which 130 women referred to counseling clinics in the first half of 2024 were selected using convenience sampling. To collect data, the Marital Burnout Questionnaire (1996), Gross and John's Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (2003), Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form (2003), and the Premenstrual Syndrome Assessment Scale (2011) were used. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple regression methods using SPSS version 26 software.
Results: The results indicated that emotion regulation had an inverse and significant relationship with marital burnout, and early maladaptive schemas had a direct and significant relationship with marital burnout (P≤0.01). The results of multivariate regression analysis also showed that 29% of changes in marital burnout could be predicted based on emotion regulation and early maladaptive schemas. The results showed that emotion regulation dimensions including reappraisal (β=-0.410) and suppression (β=0.083) and early maladaptive schema dimensions including disconnection/rejection (β=-0.137), impaired autonomy and functioning (β=-0.144), impaired constraint (β=-0.245), extraversion (β=-0.174), and callousness (β=-0.177) could predict marital burnout.
Conclusion: It can be said that marital burnout is predictable based on emotion regulation and early maladaptive schemas. Therefore, it is recommended to all psychologists and psychiatrists to pay attention to the role of these factors in improving couples' relationships, especially in women with PMS syndrome.
