Nowadays, various methods are used for anxiety reduction and mental preparation of the patients in the preoperative period. One of them is music therapy which is widely accepted in the complementary medicine, but there are still controversial topics about type of chosen music. According to the rule-following our body automatically adapts itself to the tonality and rhythm of the music. Listening to a light and peaceful music would cause increasing in endorphin secretions, reducing the heart rate, regulating and deepening the respirations, relaxation of the muscles and sleeping. In general, this kind of music is specified with regular rhythm, predictable dynamic, and harmony but the selection of music is based on the patients’ preference in order for the best effect. The music selection depends on several factors like sound quality listener’s charastictics the best result will be obtained using familiar music. The advantages of this method introduce the nessecity of using the music as a mental health procedure in society. Increasing demands of curative systems for documented health services brings up the need for more researches, regarding cultural, social and economic differences between Iran and other countries.
